one of my favorite kids books is bossy bear from david horvath. i got my wife the small vinyl bossy bear for her birthday (because sometimes she can be bossy - in a cute way) - and have been waiting for bossy bear's friend the turtle to turn up in vinyl form. it looks like that wait is nearly over. turtle will be hitting the shelves in april or may! (and bossy bear's second book "just like bossy bear" will be available march 3rd).

let's hear it for horton!

yesterday my girl and i sat down to watch horton hears a who on bluray . . . and it blew our minds. the art direction was beautiful and the textures were the best i've ever seen. the renders of fur, feathers, and fauna were amazing. and the character animations were brilliant, and i loved all the little stuff they added - like katie (pictured) and the bunny with cookies. i was actually so inspired that i looked into animation programs and spoke with an admissions councilor at the academy of art university - they have an online program that i'm looking into. any other recommendations for animation school?

little big present

well, it's christmas time, (2008) for those back readers, and it has been a tremendous season for great video games. and yet, with the economy in the crapper, sales have been poor and some really great studios are struggling to keep their doors open. in this odd time, most of my 30 something, early adopting friends are feeling more like kids in a candy store with no money - myself included.
so, with money what it is, and choices what they are, consumers (that's us) need to start looking at value in platform games - and i think little big planet is the hands down winner. with user generated levels (free), great online play (free) with your friends, weekly content updates (some free, some not), and beautiful art direction, this is a game that will remain fresh, fun and exciting for years.
so, gentle readers, what game do you think gives the most bang for your deflated dollar?
